Eliat Aram, CEO of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, talks to Hüseyin Özdemir of oezpa Akademie & Consulting, Germany about the Training Group in the Orglab Group Relations conference 2014 where Eliat was the Director of the Training Group (TG).
Eliat covers the design of the TG programme, where and how they will be taking up the consulting role and the importance of reflecting on the transition of roles, from member to consultant and back again. In this design the TG members join the consultant staff group in order to make sense of the system together. Eliat describes the role of the TG member as fragile – they have the identity of learner at full volume, with less freedom than ordinary members and they’re also expected to know more and behave in certain ways. Eliat goes into detail about the tasks of Review / Consultation groups, other more traditional TG programme designs and which she prefers and why. Finally Eliat talks about the Review and Application Groups (RAGs) – where there are the most ‘ah ha!’ moments for the members – and Eliat’s favoured ways of working in the RAGs. The conversation finishes tantalisingly on the question of why the Group Relations method is such a good way of working….
