The rise of remote work and digital platforms has significantly boosted the freelance economy over the past decade. Dynamics of Freelancing is our pilot programme designed for those working independently.

There are many programmes exploring dynamics within organisations. Yet today, when nearly one in two workers worldwide either freelances or undertakes some form of freelance work, we still speak too little about the dynamics of freelancing itself.

Freelancing is often associated with freedom, creativity and a unique lifestyle unconstrained by organisational rules. However, there is also a side we tend not to talk about as openly: the challenges of managing your own boundaries, entering the client’s system, and constantly redefining your role and task. Contract after contract. Client after client.

Curious? book a call with us.

As experts in the unconscious life of organisations, we recognise that freelancers are not only marketing specialists, tax consultants or IT developers. They also carry significant emotional and relational dynamics on behalf of their clients. Freelancers often act as containers for organisational fears, hopes and desires — and sometimes for mistrust or resistance to change.

Whatever your freelance profession, you are warmly invited to join this programme — a learning community where we will explore the dynamics of freelance work together and develop in the roles we take.

The Value of the Programme

To succeed as a freelancer, it is essential to manage client relationships effectively. This requires not only the ability to define, negotiate and maintain clear boundaries around roles and tasks, but also awareness of the dynamics that unfold in relationships with different client organisations.

In this programme, we will offer “food for thought” around key concepts that support the development of collaborative and productive client relationships. As much of organisational theory is rooted in traditional employment structures, this programme will explore how these ideas apply to freelance work.

Together, as a community of freelancers, we will reflect on our own experiences and make sense of the challenges we encounter in practice.

What will we be exploring during the meetings?

Meeting 1: Entering the client system

What are you really stepping into when you start engaging a new client?

Meeting 2: Mapping the freelance field

Focusing on the freelancer not as an isolated individual, but as someone working in a wider field of relationships, affiliations, status dynamics, dependencies and meanings.

Meeting 3: Task, Role and Boundary Management

How do freelancers establish, manage, protect and renegotiate the boundaries of task and role.

Meeting 4: Power, Projection and the Emotional Labour of Freelancing

How to stay steady when pressure, uncertainty and strong client demands start getting under your skin.

Meeting 5: Ending, Learning and Re-Authorising the Relationship

Ending is not simply an administrative close; focusing on the dynamics of ending freelance engagements.
