Supporting individuals and teams to work remotely through lockdowns and beyond.

Digital Surgeries are a confidential space for business leaders, managers, consultants, coaches, and other professionals to explore how to work more efficiently and effectively in the digital world. The surgery allows for conversations about team dynamics and individual behaviours to explore options around how to work with them.

The surgeries bring together people interested and engaged in the effects of virtuality on work and groups. They offer an opportunity to pause: to think and deliberate instead of reacting.

The Digital Surgeries offer participants a valuable opportunity to reflect on practices and apply lens such as virtual closeness, synchronicity, leadership, social defences against anxiety and formality, to understand how to navigate work when we’re working remotely.

The group offers a safe space for discussion and experimentation so that together we will both experience and reflect on topics that are becoming increasingly important, as the learning and trauma of lockdown behaviours are embodied in each of us.

Some upcoming topics of discussion in the next 12 months include:

  • Whose emotions are we experiencing in online groups?
  • How to build trust virtually?
  • When lockdown ends, what will be the effect of hybrid meetings where some are remote, and others are co-located?

The topics chosen always reflect the group’s preoccupations and developments in the broader social system.

Online meetings:

We will be meeting regularly on Zoom and other platforms to discuss and unpack the challenges that are presented by working virtually. In the coming year, we will practice the concept of emerging leadership by allowing members of the surgery to co-lead sessions on an ad hoc basis as we experiment with technologies and topics. By joining in discussions, participants will act as a peer group and a community of practice with critical friends. Our aim is to find the value in sharing perspectives from around the world to identify common difficulties and novel viewpoints.

We welcome new members to join and existing members of the surgeries to re-join.
